WIP: Vulcan Clone

When I started the Skull Bashers, I wanted to go in the opposite direction of my Tyranids. I wanted tanks, good saves, templates and low AP weapons.

Six rhino chassis later, I'm working on the rest.

Vulcan really stood out in making flamers, melta and Assault Terminators extra dangerous. I was banking on the rumors of a model for him being true. The good thing is that there is a model for him coming out soon the bad thing: it's not my style. It's too busy and I don't like the idea of him throwing his spear.

So, I'm building my own model. It's the Commander chest and legs, with the Standard Bearer's pole turned into a relic blade with the help of some plasticcard and part of a hunter-killer launcher. The Gauntlet is a lighting claw with plastic tubing and plasticcard.

Still to do:
  • add some plasticcard on the legs to make the armor look different
  • custom backpack
  • scaled mantle
Thoughts? Anyone else doing a Vulcan conversion?

Very cool! I like the fact that he's not rockin' a helm…most of the Vulcan-clones I've seen are rocking the Mark IV helm. I like the fist…very nifty plasticard work!

My own Vulcan-clone will most likely use the Kantor-bolter arm with some mods making it look more flamer-like. I don't know about the cape either. I'm thinking if I incorporate a shield of some sort...that can proxy as the mantle. And the spear will definitely be a heavily modified lightning claw. He's Crimson Fist after-all...he should sportin' twin-fists of doom!

Great idea on the Fist-work. I love that it visually looks like a flamer too. Very nice.

i like it much better than the official vulkan mini... great work on the flamer! Now you just need a good spearhead... you should check out the fantasy range.

Here's a shot of the spear. I'm not sure if I'm done with it, yet. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3554/3462100031_81ee6b6c5f_m.jpg

Spear looks good...though maybe beefing up the pole a little to offest the weight would make it look slightly less Final Fantasy VII. :)

Interesting mini and I agree with Cawshis about the balance of that spear. Is there anything you could do to the bottom of the pole?

great work! Nice idea, using the standard bearer arm instead of a grey knight.
